Mary Kerrigan, from StepUp Ventura was our WWC Guest Speaker for the month of May. Step Up Ventura is a Non Profit dedicated to support children under the age of 5 and who are in the verge of homelessness with one on one learning skills and mental health support so they can adapt well for Kindergarten.
It has been documented that children that do not have the needed learning skills at this young age are students who leave school early on, and go into a path of homelessness and addictions.
Our treasurer gave a repot of out highly successful Fashion on Parade - Cruising the Caribbean. Members worked very hard to put the show on and will get the reward of seeing the funds raise going to support various worthy causes and our scholarship program for local High Schools including Agoura, Newbury Park, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Westlake and the Conejo Continuation high school. The members were informed about the 2023 California Federation of Women's Clubs three 1st place District Awards, that were presented to the Westlake Women's Club, for their work in the areas of Advocates for Children, Membership and Women's History.
The meeting was also a celebration of Mothers Day. The President opened the meeting with a motivational speech " THE LOVE OF A MOTHER- THE TRUE SPIRIT OF MOTHERHOOD"
Unconditional Love. The privilege to be a mother is not necessarily tied to conception. There are many ways that women can embrace motherhood.
A mother has the power to affect the life of somebody through caring, love and most important direction.
